On the night of June 17, 1462, Vlad Tzepes, also known as Dracula, launched a surprise attack against the Ottoman Empire army that was encamped outside of Târgovişte .
Vlad and his forces had been preparing for this attack for weeks, digging trenches and building ramparts around the city. As night fell, Vlad ordered his men to light hundreds of torches and place them along the ramparts, creating the illusion of a much larger force.
At the same time, Vlad and a small group of his most trusted soldiers snuck out of the city and made their way toward the Ottoman camp. As they approached, they set fire to the Ottoman’s supply of wagons and tents, creating chaos and confusion among the enemy soldiers.
As the Ottoman army scrambled to put out the fires and defend themselves, Vlad and his men launched their attack, using the cover of darkness to their advantage. The Ottoman soldiers, caught off guard and disorganized, were quickly overwhelmed by Vlad and his forces.
The attack was a complete surprise and a decisive victory for Vlad and his army. The Ottoman army was forced to retreat.
