The Petrossa Treasure was discovered in 1837 by two peasants playing on a hill. They sold the treasure to a certain Verussi who disassembled the pieces because they would not fit in boxes. When police came by some pieces were lost already. It was the biggest treasure ever found and remained the biggest until 1922 when Tutankhamun treasure was discovered.
Stolen treasure
It was exposed in a museum and was stolen during a heavy winter storm by a clown. When police found him six months later, he was about to melt it. He was given six years of prison and he died mysteriously while attempting to escape. Who was the owner of this treasure is still a debate but is believed it belonged to the Goths or Visigoths, migratory populations who, while stationed in Romania, buried their king.
Athanaric
The presumed owner was Athanaric, a migratory population king. After its discovery thousands of people including many from other countries searched all the surrounding hills.
