The Agamemnon funerary mask is a masterpiece of ancient Greek art that was discovered by Heinrich Schliemann during his excavation of the Mycenaean civilization in 1876.
The mask is made of pure gold and weighs approximately 12 ounces. The mask is believed to be from the 16th century BCE and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Mycenaean metalwork. The design of the mask features intricate patterns and depictions of human faces, thought to represent the face of Agamemnon. Later it was established it belonged to an earlier king and some argued its authenticity.
