An interesting archeological site is at Epidaurus, Greece. At this site there was a famous medical sanctuary which functioned for centuries. Among many buildings, there was a round temple called Asklepion dedicated to Asclepius, the God of medicine in ancient Greece.
It was called Tholos. Asclepius was a famous Doctor who cured many difficult cases and was giving second opinions. He became so famous that he made Zeus envy, and he thundered him because he allegedly brought a patient back to life. Asklepion was surrounded by many buildings which were ancient hospitals.
One peculiar form of therapy used in the Epidaurus Medical Sanctuary was a type of sleep therapy. Patients from all over the ancient world were coming as medical pilgrims. They were sleeping at the temple and the next day; they were sharing the dream with medical doctors who were providing their Cures as indicated by gods in their respective dreams. Another amazing building in Epidaurus was a theater which has amazing acoustics and is still functional nowadays from time to time.
