What if I told you that Machu Picchu is considered an engineering feat? Machu Picchu was built by Inca Pachacuti. Machu Picchu was abandoned after the Spanish Invasion for unknown reasons.

Machu Picchu was called the Lost City because it was abandoned and not found by the Spanish conquest, therefore it was eaten by the forest and forgotten and then rediscovered in 1911.

Many of the stones that were used to build Machu Pichu were very heavy, it is believed that no wheels were used to transport these rocks up the mountain.

Machu Picchu was only known locally until Hiram Bingham re-discovered the site in 1911.

Machu Picchu is an engineering accomplishment because the Inca have built a sophisticated system of terraces and water drainage to prevent soil erosion and therefore it lasted unchanged for centuries. Machu Picchu was built by the Inca Empire in the 15th century. Machu Picchu is over 7,900 feet above sea level in the Andes Mountains in southern Peru .

Machu Picchu is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We do not know the purpose of Machu Picchu, it is assumed it was a royal real estate retreat or a secret ceremonial center, or even an astronomical observatory.
