Quick facts about Mesopotamian civilizations
Mesopotamia was the cradle for the first civilizations(Sumerians, Akkadians, or Babylonians and Assyrians). Some scholars name them Summero-akkadians or Assyro-babylonians.
The Sumerians
were the first civilization in history. They were the first who have build an empire under the ruler Sargon the Akkadian. They have build the first city.
They were the first to use mathematics and astronomy and used a 60 base numerology. Because of their legacy we divide an hour in 60 minutes and one minute in 60 seconds and the day in 24 hours. Their year was divided in 360 days. They have build the first monumental temples called ziggurats. Probably the tour of Babel was a ziggurat.
The Sumerians
were the first known beer drinking society. They even had a goddess of beer called Ninkasi. The Sumerians invented the wheel and they had the first wheeled vehicles. They invented the pottery wheel. The Sumerians created the first system of writing, first pictographic then cuneiform. They had the first code of law , the code of Hammurabi. They had the first city states. They had the first written epic tale :
