Who was Ötzi the Iceman? Ötzi, also called the Iceman, is the natural mummy of a man who lived between 3350 and 3105 BC and was discovered in September 1991 in the Ötztal Alps by two tourists.
They thought they found a distressed alpinist but, he was a well-preserved mummified body. Ötzi is the world’s oldest wet mummy, and the clothes he wore and the equipment he carried are unique. The mummy is invaluable for archaeology and for medical science, genetics, and biology.
His mummy was studied extensively and gave us information about Copper-Age humans. He was a high-altitude Sheppard and his clothes, and his equipment were preserved, and we have an interesting picture of human life around his time. Ötzi has the oldest tattoos in the world.
Ötzi carried a first aid kit. Ötzi’s tools demonstrated his time’s latest technology. He was killed with arrows by four guys who followed him. He had several health issues including arthritis and peptic ulcer and he was eating pollen and goats.
He has the oldest known tattoos, and some researchers believe that the tattoos marked acupuncture points making him the oldest evidence for acupuncture. Brad Pitt has a tattoo with Ötzi on his forearm.
