Why Genghis Khan’s tomb can’t be found?

Genghis Khan was the iconic ruler of the Mongol Empire which at its peak was larger than half of the known world at that time.

Genghis Khan was born in 1162 under the name of Temüjin. He became the head of his tribe at the age of 13 after his father died. Only a few years later he was the head of many tribes in Mongolia, and he managed to expand his empire conquering lands from China, and Korea, from Asia to the Black Sea. His empire was one of the largest in history larger than the current US.

When he died, he asked specifically that his tomb to be in a secret location and that no one to know his location. the location of Genghis Khan’s tomb is unknown and unlikely to be found anytime soon. Some people in Mongolia might prefer that it is never found, as Genghis is regarded by some today with an almost religious reverence. The researchers used satellite imagery to search for the tomb, and the satellite survey identified a variety of archaeological remains, but not the tomb of Genghis Khan.

Marco Polo stated that 20,000 people who knew of the tomb’s location were killed in an effort to keep its location secret. After the burial, the soldiers who did the job were killed, and then these soldiers were killed too. Then the site was taken into horse feet and probably after that, a river was diverted upon it. Therefore, archeologists have no clues to indicate its location. It is not known if he took any treasures with him to the burial.

Burkhan Khaldun mountain is sacred now and is protected by law, so it is hard to find its location. Genghis Khan has now a mausoleum, but the location of his burial is a mystery.
